Gerber was founded in 1939 in Portland, Oregon, by Joseph R. Gerber. Initially producing bespoke knife sets, Gerber partnered with knifemaker David Murphy to begin series manufacturing of high-quality blades.

The product range includes knives, multi-tools, cutting tools, and outdoor gear, shaped by decades of innovation and reliable craftsmanship. Key milestones include the LST folding knife (1980) and the debut Gerber Multiplier multi-tool (1992).

Gerber remains headquartered in Portland, manufactures in the USA, and has been a subsidiary of Fiskars since 1987. The company holds ISO 9001 certification and offers lifetime warranty on its products.
